The Mental Health and Career Development Nexus:
A Framework for the Role and Function of Career Practitioners. 

Career development and mental health are closely connected, yet they are often addressed separately. Career uncertainty, academic and workplace stress, career transitions, and concerns about identity and purpose can affect well-being, while mental health can influence career decision-making, exploration, and adaptability. This one-hour webinar features a panel of professionals discussing the relationship between career development and mental health across educational and workplace settings. Panelists will explore practical strategies for supporting individuals holistically, recognizing when career concerns may signal broader mental health needs, and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and referral practices. Participants will leave with greater awareness of the career–mental health connection and practical strategies they can apply in their work.

Presenters: 

Jennifer R. Curry, Ph.D., NCC, is the Vira Franklin and James R. Eagles Professor of Counseling in the College of Human Sciences and Education at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. She is the author of six books on career development. Her research interests include K-20 career and college readiness and the STEM pipeline. 
  
Jodi H. Manton, Ph.D., NCC, is an Associate Professor of Professional Practice at Louisiana State University, working with students in Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling. A Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, National Certified Counselor, and former school counselor, she has practiced in inpatient, community, and educational settings and currently owns a private practice where she works with adolescents and adults addressing trauma, anxiety, depression, and identity concerns. Her professional interests include counselor wellness, trauma-informed care, identity development, and culturally responsive practice across the lifespan, as well as supervision, advocacy, and counselor education.
